The Top Five Books I’ve Read in One Sitting (or close to)

The topic for this week is my top five books that I’ve read in one sitting (or close to). I have a hard time reading books in one sitting. This has absolutely nothing to do with how much I’m enjoying a book. It has everything to do with the fact that I have an attention span the size of a pea. Some days are really good, where I can sit down and I can read and read and read. But those days don’t come around very often and I have a hard time remembering what it is I have read on those occasions. So I tried to pick books that I read really quickly (within like a day or two). That being said, for this post I will probably talk more about my reading experience than the actual book itself. Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout: This book was so much fun to read! I read this a few days before I started my job at the school last year (along with it’s sequel Onyx) and just loved it. I started this one night, read the first few chapters. Then I picked it up the next day and did not put it down until it was 2 am and I was finished. I loved the snarky characters, I loved the aliens, I loved the main character, I loved it all. I’ve only read two of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s books and I’ve loved them both (I read Onyx in about the same time frame as Obsidian). I cannot wait to continue on with the series. (My review for this book can be found here.)

Divergent by Veronica Roth: I read this book right before the movie came out. And I loved every minute of the first novel in this series. I just wish I had loved the next two books as much as I did this one. I read this over a two day period, I think. I loved everything about this book. The plot, the pacing, the characters, the world, everything. Now, if you were to look at my reviews for Insurgent and Allegiant you would probably say, “It sure doesn’t look like you didn’t enjoy them.” That’s true. I enjoyed them, and at the time, those were pretty fair ratings for my feelings. I just wish I had waited a little longer, and if I hadn’t already reviewed them, the ratings would be lower. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: This is probably the closest to a in one sitting read as I’ve ever gotten (if we’re not counting graphic novels that I read during Dewey’s 24-hr readathon). And it’s not just the first book. I’m probably going to catch some slack for this, but I saw the first Hunger Games movie with my mom before I read the books. I know. But then I proceeded to go home and binge read all three books of the series in a matter of about three days. (The one and only time I’ve binge read an entire series back to back like that.)

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green: This was the first book that I read last year. I read it on my kindle while I was still working at the hotel, and I just could not put this book down. I remember being frustrated when a customer would come in to check in because I’d have to set the book down. I also remember crying at work because of this book. Thanks for that, John Green. This was such an amazing, beautiful book that I just gobbled up.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell: Is anyone surprised this is number one on my list? I certainly hope not (unless you’re new here, in which case; welcome to my obsession of Fangirl!). This was my favorite book of last year, and it’s another book that I just inhaled. I read this over a two or three day period (again, at the hotel). I know that doesn’t exactly seem like a close to one sitting read, but, like I said, I was working and this book is almost 500 pages. It was another book that I read on my kindle and had to get in physical form after I read it. The collector’s edition came out recently and I need it in my life like yesterday (hey Mom, birthday idea). I really want to reread this soon. (My review for this book can be found here.)
